Here at Kelsall Architects we love to experiment. We like to apply our design skills to projects of any size or scale, and this lampshade is a perfect example. It’s made using laser cut plywood and its shape and size are mass customisable so it can be manufactured to suit any setting and light fitting.
The form of the lampshade is determined by the audio waveforms of a spoken word. We utilised very clever parametric software (Grasshopper plugin for Rhino) to extract data from an audio file and used it to generate the fins of the lampshade… It all sounds a bit bonkers, but it ticks all the ‘geek’ boxes for us - data driven, responds to people, unconventional solution. This project really appealed to us because we had an idea, but had to learn a whole new way to execute that idea!
The lampshade was designed and manufactured in collaboration with the very clever folks at Arkhefield.
